Incoming 6th through 8th grade Robbinsdale Area Schools students are eligible to participate in this tuition-free, week-long program, June 21 - June 25. College 4 Kids aims to expose middle school students to various career pathways through educational courses including program and industry overviews, followed by fun hands-on activites.
Automotive – Students will build a model F150 pickup and learn about the major mechanical components of automobiles. Career opportunities in the automotive field will also be discussed.
Culinary – Participants will watch Chief Denis in the kitchen and get to participate in making frozen fruit summer refreshments. Menu options will be included.
Horticulture – Participants will get everything they need to create a small, indoor/outdoor vegetable garden. They will plant the garden, and learn tips and tricks to help it grow throughout the summer.
HealthCare – Participants will learn about critical vital signs and get an opportunity to check some of their own. Health Care careers will also be discussed.
Automation/Motion Control – Participants will have a chance to build a robotic arm that can grip and move small objects. They will learn about the science of hydraulics and about careers in Automation, Robotics, and Motion Control.
Students will be guided by instructors from Hennepin Technical College via Zoom. Sessions will run from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Register by June 4, 2021.
